Plane crash is a big tragedy like the Siachen incident, PM

Expressing grief on the loss of 139 lives in the Bhoja Airline plane crash, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Saturday that the plane crash is a big tragedy like the Siachin incident. The Premier revealed that a formal judicial commission was being set up to probe the Bhoja Air plane crash.

Speaking to reporters at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), in Islamabad, Gilani said: “We cannot conclude anything till investigations are complete. The plane crash is a big tragedy like the Siachen incident.”

A three-member judicial commission has been constituted to investigate into the Bhoja plane crash tragedy. Former LHC Chief Justice Zahid Hussain Bukhari will head the commission comprising Justice (retd) Naseem Sikandar and Dr Wasim Kosar. A notification to this effect has already been issued by the Interior Ministry.

Describing the plane crash as a massive disaster, PM said the entire nation shares the grief of the bereaved families. Replying to a query about providing compensation to families of victims, Prime Minister Gilani said that responsibility for the crash rests with the concerned airline and the government would take steps to ensure that compensation was given to the aggrieved families. Later, he took an aerial view of the plane crash site.

Earlier, Minister for Interior Rehman Malik had told the media reporters that the name of Bhoja Air owner Farooq Bhoja has been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) till the completion of the inquiry into the matter. Though the international experts believe windy weather was the main cause of the plane crash, the Interior Minister said that the criminal aspect of the plane crash could not be ruled out.
