Rehman Malik says PPP, ANP, MQM involved in extortion

In what appeared to be a shocking statement, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik claimed that all the ruling parties of Sindh involved in extortion in Karachi, the economic hub of the country.

While speaking to the media, the minister said activists of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the Awami National Party (ANP) and some other parties were involved in the crucial business.

He arrived in Karachi to brief President Asif Ali Zardari over the worsening law and order situation in the country’s largest city.

Replying to a query, he informed the media persons that Ali Musa Gilani, the Prime Minister’s son allegedly involved in the chemical quota allotment case, had reached the country to assist the investigators in the case.

He criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for opposing the composition of investigation panel formed to probe the air-crash that killed 127 people near Islamabad.

Rejecting the objection raised by Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali about inclusion of a PCO judge in the committee, he said that there were several PCO judges working in the country.

He claimed that Bhoja Airline was awarded license during Nawaz Sharif’s government on soft conditions, saying that he would take action against those persons who received bribery for restoring license of Bhoja Airline if proof was found in this regard.

Making an appeal to Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to politicize the corpses, he observed, “By expressing his reservation on Judicial Commission, he has tried to hide his own guilt. It was unfair on the part of Chaudhry Nisar to say that Air Blue incident report was not made public, he wanted Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to be arrested”.

He said the licences to private airlines were issued in PML-N era, asking why such soft terms were kept at that time. He also inquired for evidence relating to the allegation of taking bribe for the restoration of Bhoja Air’s licence, assuring immediate action will be taken if anyone found guilty.

An inquiry was underway about why old planes of only Cathy Pacific came to Pakistan; he said that old crafts should not be included in the airline-fleet besides.
