Features

The Archos 101 G9 Turbo comes pre-installed with Google’s latest iteration of its mobile operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich or 4.0.3. Last year’s model, the one without Turbo suffix, is also upgradable to ICS via internet.

The 1.2 GHz dual-core processor justifies the operating system with all its features. Since it is a Google-based product it comes equipped with Google Books, Plus, Gmail, Search, Latitude, Maps with Navigation, Messenger, Shopper, Music, Talk, YouTube, and the Play Store. The standard features are there as well like a calculator, a calendar, a clock, an address book, a sound recorder, and a native music and movie player.

There is a host of application installed in the tablet, although some of them are in the trial versions. Applications like Angry Birds, Asphalt 6 HD, and Spider-Man HD are in demo versions whereas the Barnes and Noble Nook app, the highly popular note-taking app, Evernote, Movie Studio to edit movies, a social media reader called Brief Me, a trial version of Picsel Smart Office, which lets you store and access files on DropBox and Google Docs, and a news app called News Republic are parcel to purchase.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, the device boasts a good operating system and a good processor, on paper at least. However, the actual performance of the tablet is still on the shorter side of the stick. In addition, the $390 price tag is another turn off for the first-time users, who are looking for a tablet regardless of the label.
