Floyd Mayweather: May 5 fight is very important for me

The five-division world champion and the current WBO Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather junior, is all set to take on Miguel Cotto, the reigning WBA (Super) light middleweight champion, on May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and he has insisted that this is a very important fight for him.

The undefeated American legend, also known as Money, recently spoke to Kelly Swanson of worldboxing.com over the phone and during the call he revealed that he is dedicating this fight to Leonard’s mother as a result to which it holds much importance to him.

Mayweather said, “May 5th I’m going to dedicate this fight to Leonard’s mother who just passed away. So this fight is very, very important to me. So I want to thank everybody for this call and just thank you guys for supporting me for so many years.”

A super-confident Mayweather, now 35, also promised that he will once again provide his fans with a lot of entertainment.

He said, “I think I’m going to be a lot sharper come May 5th because I’m getting right back in there. Like I said before, I want to stay active and I want to constantly give the fans excitement.”

Mayweather holds an undefeated record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout and not too long ago he mentioned on HBO 24/7 that it’s not just the game plans but the God given talent. Therefore, Mayweather was asked to comment on it as well.

He said, “Well 42 times they game plan hasn’t worked.  May 5th we’ll have to see if it work for the 43rd time.  Why don’t a fighter just say I’m going to go out there and win, I’m going to fight hard, and the game plan is to go in there and just do me?”

Well, all said and done, Mayweather fights at 147lbs but this is the first time he is going to fight at 154lbs still let’s see if he can produce the same standard of performance in the ring.
