The pardon of Billy the Kid – Part 1

After 129 years, Billy the Kid continues to be pardoned by the governor. One of the most famous gangsters of the American West was shot by Pat Garrett in 1881.

The death of his friend John Tunstall had led him to unleash a conflict known as the Lincoln County War in New Mexico, and flee to Texas, after killing, among others, Sheriff William Brady. The then Governor Lew Wallace, the future author of Ben Hur, offered
a pardon if I collaborated with the law. Billy the Kid kept his part of the deal but the Governor broke his word and allowed his capture.

Wallace has happened to 34 governors and, finally, Bill Richardson, who will leave office on Friday, will decide in the coming hours if finally formalized so that forgiveness póstuma.El Richardson deputy chief of staff, Eric Witt, explained that the pardon
if granted, would be only symbolic: "We will not offer unconditional forgiveness for what he did."

William Bonney, Billy the Kid to the legend, was from New York and lived on the border just four years. Were enough, however, to forge a myth. Participated in a war, he lived as an outlaw, and before being killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett, says the legend that
killed 21 men with his own gun.

Lincoln County, where he lived and died, is a land of dry meadows until the arrival of the white man belonged to the Apaches. In 1877, the arrival of Bonney, was a county outside the law, where duels decided matters of honor. Billy the Kid found work as
a cowboy on the ranch of John Tunstall, who end up considering a parent. Tunstall was a wealthy British merchant who had come to Lincoln County in 1876 to try his luck.
