Nathan Yeomans prevails in Round 3 of the ASP PRIME Nike Lowers Pro

America’s Nathan Yeomans successfully extended his life in the latest edition of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) PRIME Nike Lowers Pro by putting on an impressive performance for a convincing victory in the 22nd heat of Round 3 (Round of 96) that went down at the beach-break of Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California, on Wednesday, May 2.

Australia’s Blake Thornton confirmed is place in the next round of the competition as well by making a second-place finish.

The second day of the latest ASP PRIME event had turned out to be nothing short of epic. The flawless waves of Lower Trestles promised a heavy dose of thrilling action and that was exactly what was delivered to the fans during the course of the day. The surfing talent, consisting of both local up-and-coming pedigree and renowned surfing professionals, held nothing back during their clash for survival. The presence of the ASP World Tour contenders raised the hype of the event to an even greater rival, thus making the atmosphere at the beach even more intense.

The 22nd heat of Round 3 pitted Yeomans against three Australian surfers, namely Thornton, Jack Freestone and Adam Melling.

All four surfers were pretty capable of making a strong impact on their day, thought the scales were definitely tipping in the favour of Yeomans due to his local knowledge of the waves.

The American surfer started off slow, collecting a series of average scores before stepping up and scoring a 6.37 off his first business-wave. He soon got hold of a juicy wave that appeared to pull off a string of powerful carves and quick turns, earning an 8.33 for the for the effort and thus moving to a heat-total of 14.70 points. The score remained unbeatable until the end of the bout to seal the deal in his favour.

Thornton managed to remain alive in the contention for the event title after collecting a couple of scores in the six point range for a heat-total of 12.90 points.

Freestone finished in third place with a heat-total of 5.40 points, while Melling also surprisingly  got ejected from the competition after scoring a heat-total of 9.80 points, which included a 4.50 and 5.30-point wave.
