Marvel Comics and Walt Disney production, The Avengers, was released on Friday, May 4, 2012. As expected, the movie received staggering reception all over the world. But that is not all for the biggest flick of the year yet. The Avengers broke all previous records of the weekend revenue in the cinema history.

From Friday, the starting day, all the way to Sunday the picture grossed up $200 Million, just in three days of showing. This the biggest gross earning by any movie in the history of motion pictures; Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows – Part 2 amassed $169,189,427. The most amazing part is that all these figures are from the US box offices.

In the worldwide release The Avengers is sold out for the whole week at majority of theatres, accumulating around $641.8 Million in advance. This figure tells that more and more cinemagoers will be headed toward the screens showing the movie in the next week and the trend is expected to grow exponentially. The aforementioned figure does not include revenues from Japan, where The Avengers is yet to be released.

Around $650 Million is the highest revenue figure any motion picture has received in one week of commencement, let alone any Super-Hero movie. The story line sounds catchy and the inclusion of favourite super-heroes, though not the first time, is a big attraction to movie fanatics.

Nick Fury and super-heroes including big guns like Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America have teamed up to form the league called the SHIELD. This likely band of heroes with supernatural powers and unfathomable technology are against Loki, leader of the planet where Thor belongs. Loki and his army has threatened Earth of its existence and SHIELD is at battle to with them to save their planet.

The story line sounds interesting and that is the reason why the film has broken all records made in the history. The Avengers rallied all previous benchmarks of revenue, cashing up fastest $100 Million, $150 Million and $200 Million, and the trend is unstoppable.

The only threat to The Avengers newly made streak of records is the upcoming DC Comics flick, The Dark Knight Rises. The Christopher Nolan film is set to unleash on July 20, 2012.
