Allison Schmitt and Ricky Berens win gold medals – NC Charlotte UltraSwim

Allison Schmitt and Ricky Berens won gold medals of the Women’s and Men’s 200m freestyle respectively on second day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim.

The 21-year-old Schmitt displayed her wonderful efforts in the four-lap freestyle discipline as she clocked a time of 1 minute and 57.38 seconds.

Her grueling effort remained almost one body length ahead of Dana Vollmer, who tapped the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 58.62 seconds.

Third spot of the event was trailed by Kathryn Hoff, who remained marginally slower from her and posted a time of 1 minute and 58.85 seconds.

With her wonderful efforts, Hoff remained 0.16 seconds ahead of Shannon Vreeland, who completed her race in a time of 1 minute and 59.01 seconds.

Vreeland was chased by Kathleen Ledecky, who secured fifth position of the discipline by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 59.05 seconds.

Ledecky was chased by Elizabeth Pelton, who was almost one body length behind and ended her swim in sixth place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.08 seconds.

On the other hand, Berens served notice of his talent by occupying gold medal of the Men’s equivalent event.

The 24-year-old Berens remained comfortably ahead of his challengers by completing his swim in a time of 1 minute and 47.32 seconds. The silver medalist was followed by Michael Phelps of North Baltimore, who clocked a time of 1 minute and 48.01 seconds for
silver medal.

Third position of the event was secured by Charlie Houchin, who stayed full body length behind her and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 49.03 seconds.

Houchin was chased by Conor Dwyer, who stayed two strokes behind and settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by clocking a time of 1 minute and 49.32 seconds.

Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Oussama Mellouli, who ended his race in a time of 1 minute and 49.40 seconds.

Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all listed events.
