President Zardari gets invitation to Chicago summit

Islamabad: (Tuesday, May 15, 2012) President Asif Ali Zardari has received invitation from the NATO to attend the forthcoming Chicago Summit.

As per the details shared by the Foreign Office spokesman, President Zardari has been given an unconditional invitation to attend the summit. The government, which is currently reviewing its options whether to open the NATO supply
routes, has still to decide on attending the event.

The summit, which is scheduled to be held on May 20-21, will mull over devising and finalizing a road-map for NATO’s post 2014 role in Afghanistan.

Last week, during a press conference, NATO Secretary General Andres Fogh Rasmussen had stressed Pakistan to reopen the supply route which was stopped after an attack by the US forces on the Salala check post that rendered over
24 Pakistani soldiers martyred.

Rasmussen had also not mentioned Pakistan as an invitee to the event.
