It has been noticed so far that dual-clutch gear box, that are either semi- or full-automatic, are more fuel-friendly. The traditional stick shift manual transmission is fuel efficient as well but the fully automatic gear box goes high in speeds.

EPA has been pressing hard on automakers to bring more green gas-powered cars in addition to electric vehicles and hybrids. The latter two options are economical on fuel but their one-time purchase costs are so high that most of the people end up with a traditional gas-engined car.

Following are the top 5 cars that made the list of the most efficient sports cars in the world.

Porsche 911 Carrera S

The 2013 model comes at the top of the list because it has got the brains and the braun. The vehicle does 0 to 60 in a hair over 4 seconds. Powered by a 3.5 litre flat-six cylinder engine that churns out a massive 350 horse powers, the car astonishes the masses with its fuel economy of 20/27 mpg (City/Highway).

Porsche Boxster

Carrera’s sibling in the sports car category is the second most fuel efficient vehicle and also packs a muscle for speed. The2.9-liter flat-six engine fires out 255 horse powers that easily take the car from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds.

Its small engine coupled with the dual-clutch transmission makes it economical for the owners with an impressive mileage of 22/32 mpg (City/Highway).

Porsche Cayman

The third spot goes to another Porsche but this time it’s a little slower and less fuel efficient model, Porsche Cayman. The car packs a 2.9-liter engine and optional seven-speed automated manual gearbox which posts a 5.4-second time in the 0-60 mph sprint with fuel economy at 20/29 mpg.
