Sebastian Salas keen to defend his King of Mountains jersey at the Amgen Tour of California

Sebastian Salas is leading the king of mountains classifications after the stage 6 of the Amgen Tour of California.

The cyclist rode brilliantly throughout the first six stages of the American race and has filled his bag with 65 UCI points by the end of the sixth stage of the race.

David Boily of Team Spidertech Powered BY C10 is holding the second position with 48 UCI points to his credit while Jeremy Vennell of Team Bissell Cycling finished at the third spot with 22 UCI points in his pocket.

While commenting on his supreme form at the event Salas briefed, “All these guys I’ve seen over the last couple of years winning some of the biggest races in the world, and I’m up there beside them, it’s just unbelievable”.

He further added that, “Coming into the race, I had some good performances at Joe Martin and the Gila”.

“So I knew I had some good climbing legs coming in. Getting into that breakaway on the first stage was instrumental in getting the necessary points to get this jersey”.

The 25-year-old joined Team Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies in 2011 and currently rides with the team for the second consecutive season.

The Canadian is determined to strengthen his grip at the polka dot jersey for the coming stages of the Italian race.

With two more stages to go, Sébastian is a definite favourite to claim the mountain’s classifications of the contest.

He is now targeting the 126 kilometre stage 7 and the 72 kilometre stage 8 of the Amgen Tour of California scheduled on May 19 and May 20, 2012.
