Agnieszka Radwanska inches towards her third career title this circuit at the Brssels Open
Top seeded Agnieszka Radwanska tumbled over the Estonian ace, Kaia Kanepi, in straight sets at the Brussels Open 2012, a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier event held in Brussels, Germany. She nudged up a 7-6(8), 6-3 success against the 26-year-old to
book a spot in the final showdown on Friday.
The Polish number one warded off late resistance to triumph over Kaia Kanepi in one hour and 51 minutes. After earning this success in their fourth meeting, Radwanska not only improved to a 4-0 lifetime in the head-to-head series against the world number 25
but also powered into the title-round at this red clay court tournament.
"Kaia started the match very well and I made a few mistakes, and suddenly it was 1-5," Radwanska reflected after the match. "It’s always tough to come back from that. And she served so well today, it was tough to break. But on this surface you can come back
and I just thought that I could still do it, that anything could happen. It’s experience. I’ve had those leads and lost them too, so I’ve learned my lesson. You just have to take your chances and fight for it. That’s what I did."
Radwanska assertively entered the Royal Primerose Tennis Club and held her opening serve with conviction. She exchanged two serve breaks and not only dragged the set to a tie-breaker but dominated in it to clinch the opener with a 7-6(8) score line.
Third ranked Pole improved her game in the follow-up set and impressively warded off nine out of 10 breakpoints she faced. She capitalised on two out of six break opportunities and pocketed the set with a 6-3 success.
Summing up the Pole’s performance, Radwanska clobbered a better first serve share of 62 per cent as compared to her rival’s 56 per cent and impressively clicked 35 out of 58 points on it. She also took full advantage of the six double faults the Estonian committed
and finished the match with 86 points.
Next in queue for Radwanska is the Romanian number one, Simona Halep, who stomped over Sweden’s Sofia Arvidsson in straight sets to set-up this final battle.
