Rejecting allegations leveled against him by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former president Pervez Musharraf said the killers of Benazir Bhutto were in the government but the incumbent was not serious to arrest them.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the son of late Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari, said that Pervez Musharraf had killed his mother by sabotaging her security when she returned to Pakistan, back in 2007.

However, the former president while speaking to the media categorically rejected the allegations, saying the killers are part of the government. He said that Rehman Malik, who is Federal Minister for Interior, fled from the scene soon after BB’s murder.

Earlier, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Information Secretary Aasia Ishaq also dismissed the allegations against his party chief.

In a statement, she advised Bilawal to ask Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani why he had appointed a person in his cabinet as senior minister who had been nominated by Benazir Bhutto as her killer.

She observed, “Both the youngsters should question their own prime minister why had he inducted former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi as senior minister in his cabinet. Moreover, they should also inquire as to how the then chief security officer of their mother had now become the interior minister of the country”.

In quite a defiant mood, the APML Secretary said that the provision of security to Benazir Bhutto was the responsibility of the local and provincial governments, and that the president of the country did not figure anywhere in this regard.

She argued, “If Pervez Musharraf is being blamed only for the fact that he was the president of the country when Benazir Bhutto was killed, then Benazir Bhutto should be blamed for the killing of their (Bilawal and Asifa’s) uncle Mir Murtaza Bhutto, as she was the then prime minister of the country”.

In her view, Bilawal should also blame his father, Asif Ali Zardari, because he held the president’s office when Salmaan Taseer, the former governor of Punjab, was gunned down in the federal capital.
