The story of Irena Sandler – Part 4

This article is a continuation of ‘The story of Irena Sandler – Part 3’.

With the help of his fellow Municipal Social Welfare Department, outlined plans risky as they once freed up hundreds of Jewish children in one go hiding in ambulances and trams were introduced in the Ghetto arguing that the need for inspections of sanitary
conditions of the residents during an outbreak of typhus.

As the removing of hell, spent the next few days to take them with Polish families, orphanages and Catholic convents who were willing to care for them and hide them as long as necessary from the clutches Nazis. Meanwhile, they created new identities and
kept lists of data in small bottles that German soldiers were discovered with the idea in mind of them back together later, when the occupation ended, with their families.

Irena continued his crusade until in 1943 he was imprisoned by the Gestapo, tortured and sentenced to death. Fortunately, the day that should occur execution, the Zegota managed to save after bribing guards dealing with custody. Since that day, was hidden
the rest of the war, but continued his work for the children. In total it is estimated that their work helped save the lives of 2,500 Jewish children who otherwise would have perished in a high percentage within the walls of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Once the conflict ended, and with the help of his colleagues of the Municipal Department of Social Welfare, brought the records they had made with the names and locations of the little they had saved and tried to put back together with their families, a
task that in most cases was not possible to make a success since they were deceased.
