Li Yongbo targets to grab sixth Thomas Cup title to take China at the top

The former shuttler and current head coach of Chinese national team Li Yongbo shows his passion to take China at the top in the world of badminton by winning one more Thomas Cup title which will be their sixth straight title and will also be a world record.

The Chinese supremo Yongbo wants to establish China as the most consistent team at international level and for that purpose he targets to win the next edition of Thomas Cup Finals.

The Chinese coach is happy with the current performance of Chinese shuttlers and he is also looking forward to have Lin Dan and Cai Yun – Fu Haifeng stick around for the Thomas Cup Finals 2012.

However, the coach also made it clear that the final plan will come after shuttlers’ performance at the London Olympics 2012.

The coach also said that these experienced players are a source of inspiration for younger shuttlers of China. He also mentioned that the senior shuttlers have yet informed him of their retirement.

Yongbo said, “These senior players have not told me of their retirement plans. I want them to stay on until the next Thomas Cup Finals. But I will respect their decision if they want to leave after the London Olympics. I guess, it all depends on the outcome
in London. If they do well, they will stay on.”

He further added, “We have done well to equal Indonesia’s record of five wins in a row. But we want to surpass this record. Only when we win for the sixth time will I consider it a big success.”

In the title match of Thomas Cup Finals 2012, China’s players registered comprehensive victories over their Korean rivals in straight sets indicating that they are the best in the business.

World Number 2 Lin showed his supremacy in the arena when he topple Lee Hyun Il of Korea in the opening Men’s Singles competition.

In the first Men’s Doubles fight, China’s ruling World Champions Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng outplayed Lee Yong Dae and Kim Sa Rang.

In the second Men’s Singles contest, the young Chinese Chen Long who his lower ranked Korean Shon Wan Ho in straight sets to seal the victory for his country as China overpowered Korea with a stunning 3-0 margin.

Chinese line-up seems quite strong and they are capable of winning the next edition of Thomas Cup Finals as there is no other prominent country in the world that has depth in their team as compared to China.
