LG Optimus 3D Max (2012): A Full Review – Part 1

LG Electronics launched the new iteration of their 3D smartphone, LG Optimus 3D Max last month. The phone is upgraded model to last year’s Optimus 3D.

The 2012 version has been reshaped a little on the outside and has been given a new dual-core processor that works at blistering speeds. There are two 5-mega pixel camera at the rear-end to capture both 2D and 3D videos. The downside is the operating system in the new handset. LG is consistently releasing its smartphones with old Android Gingerbread 2.3.

The new phone has two modes to use the phone. There is a 2D/3D toggle at the right edge of the phone for viewing the operating system in different views. However, 3D visual effects still leave a lot to be desired because of the software bugs and narrow viewing angles.

Though the phone comes with Gingerbread, LG has done well in including all the apps that one would want in the new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, or some that are pre-installed in it. The operating system works seamlessly on the dual-core processor and internet speeds are fast.

Design

The new version of the 3D phone from LG is now slimmer than the Optimus 3D at 0.38 inches. It is 4.99 inches tall and 2.65 inches wide. At 5.22 ounces is lighter than the predecessor but it’s still heavier than its competition.

The built quality is a little sloppy. The back side is covered with a thin plastic sheet that is slightly textured but does not help in offering firm grip. As it is oversized, it is prone to drop from users who have smaller hands.
