CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry moves away from son’s case

The Chief Justice of Pakistan’s Supreme Court, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, has decided to move away from the case in which his son Arslan Iftikhar has been accused of taking money from the real estate tycoon, Malik Riaz Hussain. The decision has been taken
by the Chief Justice after the insistence of Attorney General (AG) Irfan Qadir.

The CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was previously leading the three judge bench that was overlooking the case.

“The chief justice being emotional should not hear the matter,” the AG had said. But he was told that the court would pass an appropriate order on Thursday to answer the objection in the light of the Holy Quran and Sunnah as well as different precedence
from the law.

The CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry expressed himself in the following manner after he had made his decision, “The Quran says you are responsible for your own actions, not your children’s. We have faith and believe in Allah.”

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry started proceedings against his own son, Arsalan Ifthikhar, yesterday as he has been accused of receiving a bribe worth Rs 400 million by the real estate tycoon for the purpose
of having sway over some cases in the apex court of the country.

Before the hearing, Iftikhar told reporters he was innocent and that the Chief Justice had told him not to return home till the matter was settled by the apex court. Despite the fact that Malik Riaz is the key person in the case, he failed to make an appearance
before the Supreme Court yesterday. His aide told the bench that he was in Britain for medical treatment. The tycoon is facing a number of cases in the Supreme Court. These cases were filed by a number of persons who have accused Hussain of grabbing large
chunks of land and merging them into Bahria Town.

Zahid Hussain Bukhari has been making an appearance on behalf of Malik Riaz in front of the Supreme Court.

Bukhari said he was contacted for the case only yesterday night. “I will speak on the details provided to me by Malik Riaz,” he added.
