Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan believed that Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry shouldn’t hear case against his son, Arsalan Iftikhar.

Chaudhry Nisar, who is also a central leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said that it was the first case in the history of the country where a Chief Justice took suo moto notice against his own son for allegedly being involved in corruption.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry had summoned Arsalan Iftikhar along with Bahria Town’s chief Malik Riaz following media reports that the former had received between Rs300 and Rs400 million from latter to influence judicial proceedings.

According to the media reports, the Malik Riaz beard expenses of Arsalan’s  foreign visits in return for influencing his father.

Declining to further comment on the matter, the opposition leader said the case was sub-judice and it was inappropriate to make any statement.

He, however, accused the real-estate tycoon Malik Riaz of hatching a conspiracy against the judiciary, particularly Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

He noted, “Trapping and blackmailing the son of the chief justice is a grave crime. The time has come to tell the nation about the ‘deals’ between President Asif Ali Zardari and Malik Riaz”.

Claiming that Malik Riaz spends money on influential people and has even hired nine retired generals to fulfill his evil designs, he said the apex court should thoroughly investigate the case in order to bring back the honor of the institution.

The opposition leader also accused the business tycoon of encroaching lands of thousands of the people, making a demand that the matter of forced occupation from his constituency in Rawalpindi should be resolved.

He alleged that some well-known lawyers who were in forefront of the movement for the restoration of the judiciary were enjoying perks and privileges offered by Riaz.
