Jonathan Trott not surprised with Kevin Pietersen’s retirement

English batsman Jonathan Trott is sad to see Kevin Pietersen saying good bye to the limited-over cricket, but not surprised by his fellow batsman’s sudden move.

Pietersen recently announced his decision to retire from 50-over format of the game. The aggressive batsman wants to represent England in the upcoming T20 World Cup, but according to the rules of England Cricket Board, the ODI-retired players cannot play
the shortest version of the game.

On Pietersen’s sudden step, Trott said, "It wasn’t a huge surprise. You can understand it in a way, but it’s a huge disappointment as well. Kev’s his own guy and has to make his own decisions. The team fully support his decision. Whatever he decides to do
with his cricketing career is fine."

With international cricket schedule getting busier, many players are reluctant to play all three versions of the sport. The Englishmen are currently engaged in the Test series against West Indies.

After competing with the Caribbean Kings, the Poms are set to meet South Africa in the home series, with England controversially resting James Anderson because of the busy schedule.

"It’s happened in the past, and probably will in the future as well – with the schedule getting busier and busier. It’s only right that these things happen. Jimmy would have liked to have played, and quite rightly. He’s the spearhead of our bowling attack,
and you can understand that he will probably be a little bit disappointed,” Trott stated.

He added, "But with the bowlers and their heavy workload, it’s going to happen from time to time. It’s not as if you’re giving away international caps. We have guys who are vying to play, and whoever takes his place should do a great job."

England have gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing series against West Indies. On England’s chances to win the third and the final Test to impose 3-0 whitewash, Trott described that his side has a good chance of sealing a clean-sweep triumph.

"We’ve got the opportunity to win 3-0, so it’s really important we drive home that advantage and don’t take our foot off the gas," the classy right-hander shared.
