K-P Govt. responsible for providing security to Dr. Afridi: CM Hoti

Peshawar: (Monday, June 11, 2012) Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ameer Haider Hoti said today that it was his government’s responsibility to provide complete security to Dr Shakil Afridi. He said that the provincial government
of the ANP was doing its best to provide him safety.

Hoti, who was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the Rozgaar scheme in Peshawar, said that just like other criminals, Dr Afridi has been kept in central jail Peshawar. He said that his government was aware of safety concerns
and it was providing him complete security.

Taking up Dr Afridi’s security issue, the K-P government has also contacted the federal government to shift the accused to some other province. In this regards, Punjab was contacted but the provincial administration refused to
host him in the Adiala jail or any other jail of the province, said Hoti.

He said that the ANP government was still trying to shift Afridi to some other jail as under current security issues, it seemed best idea for his security. However, he also admitted that Dr Afridi’s security issue was not the only
issue that his government was to face, there were other many issues which needed their attention and to be addressed on urgent basis.
