Mushahid Hussain urges the US for an apology over Salala attack

Explaining the tough phase of bilateral ties, PML-Q leader and Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed has said the US apology over Salala attack alone will help the two countries to bridge their trust deficit.

While speaking to a private TV channel, the former key figure of the Pervez Musharraf’s cabinet said Islamabad would not make any compromise over Pakistan’s sovereignty and national integrity.

Hence, he said bilateral ties were conditional to an unconditional apology by the US over over Salala attack that killed 24 Pakistan soldiers in September last year. Why the Obama administration could not offer an apology to Pakistan if it could apologize three times to Afghanistan, he questioned?

He criticized the American president, saying President Barack Obama has failed to understand the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan despite spending four years in power.

He noted, “The US must understand that Pakistan has changed, it won’t say yes to the US and won’t follow its dictation. The US has badly failed in Afghanistan and Iraq and due its failed policy in Afghanistan, it is pressurizing Pakistan”.

He also condemned the PML-N, the major opposition party in the country, for its rowdy attitude during the budget session in the National Assembly. He, however, commended the role of Ishaq Dar and the opposition leader in the Senate for maintaining democratic norms in parliament.

Commenting on the approval of budget for the fiscal year of 2012-13, the Senator said budget would be approved easily while the issues regarding appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and interim setup would be resolved in an appropriate way.

Replying to a query, Mushahid Hussain praised Aitzaz Ahsan for expertly defending Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in the contempt of court case.

He was of the opinion that common people were not satisfied with the government due to price-hike, inflation, power outages and problems of energy sector.

In his view, the people want and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan will take advantage of the situation.
