Verizon reschedules its smartphone plan to $90 a month

Apple dropped a bomb with FaceTime a couple of years back on cellular carriers. Then came the iMessage from the same company. Now, Skype has started to show-off with its mobile app. The likes of Verizon and AT&T are on the run for their money. Recently, Verizon rescheduled its monthly plan for air time and text messages.

The company raised the minimum price on their monthly package to $90. The $70 package no longer exists. However, the new plan is not that crucial to cell phone users as it includes unlimited talk time and text messages.

This might be good news to those who live on their mobile and smart phones; they can now avail the best deal a US carrier can offer. However, for those who live around a limited budget do not have the luxury to pay extra $20 for the package, but now they will have to if they want to remain in the Verizon club.

The new package with unlimited calls and messages is a new way to subdue the effects of the likes of Skype and WhatsApp. These applications, currently limited to smartphones like Android, iOS and Windows Phone, offer a cap-price package with unlimited calls to other smartphones with the same app. For example, a user with Skype installed on his/her smartphone can call another user with the same software running on his/her phone for a comparatively less price.

The unlimited calls will surely take give Skype and WhatsApp a tough competition but the inclusion of unlimited messages to the same package is the icing on the top of a very competitive plan. A lot of users prefer to text as the QWERTY keyboards—virtual or physical—have made it easier.

There is more to the monthly package from Verizon. It has been observed in the recent months that despite their high mobility tablets are not found to be the best choice for cellular data packages. Tablet users still opt for a WiFi-only model of any tablet, be it iPad or Transformer Pad.

Verizon has included the data package as an auxiliary to the aforementioned monthly package. Now the Verizon customers can purchase a monthly data package for tablets for $10. This is a good deal to instil some motivation in customers to go for 3G or 4G tablets.
