Supreme Court seeks record of off-air clips of Malik Raiz’s interview

The Supreme Court has taken notice of the behind-the-scenes footage of Malik Riaz’s interview at Dunya News, directing Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to produce record of the off-air clip.

The mid-break clips showed Dunya TV hosts Mehar Bukhari and Mubashir Lucman talking to Malik Riaz about the questions and their subsequent answers.

The off-air video uploaded on YouTube sent shockwaves in the media world as conversations between Bokhari, Lucman and Riaz appeared to be completely scripted.

According to the media reports, the involvement of the owner of Dunya News cannot be rules out in this conspiracy, as there were strict and clear instructions from him to the hosts not to interrupt the guest.

The video, titled ‘Malik Riaz Planted Interview with Mehar Bukhari and Mubashir Lukman on Dunya’ was uploaded by a user named ‘ivestigativereporter

In one clip, Mubashir Lucman said that Mian Amir, the owner of the channel, pressurized him to conduct the interview.

There are two videos, in one of which Mubashir Lucman is seen receiving a call on his cell phone from Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, and Mubashir told him that Riaz Malik was not letting him name Hamid Mir, the known Geo TV anchor.

Later Lucman gave his phone to Malik Riaz, and then PM’s son and Riaz Malik talked to each other.

During the mid-break planning, Mehr Bokhari told Malik Riaz that she would ask questions relating to the chief justice and Arsalan Iftikhar as Arsalan has told her that he never met Malik Riaz. Malik Riaz agreed.

Malik Riaz also asked the so-called anchors that he wanted to readout some documents, which later turned out to be orders of the Supreme Court against him.

As a result Mubashir Lucqman was said to have been fired and Director Current Affairs Nasim Zehra opted to quit. Meher Bokhari attempted to clarify her position saying it was normal to do what they did.

Earlier, Electronic Media Reporters Association (EMRA) has filed a petition in Lahore High Court (LHC), requesting the probe of anchors alleged beneficiaries of Malik Riaz.
