Energy Crisis is not a failure of the PPP Government

Lahore: (Saturday, June 16, 2012) Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said here today that saying that the PPP led government was responsible for the ongoing energy crisis would be a mistake. He said that the crisis started in the
previous regime, and they did not bother to initiate even a single power producing project.

The PM said this while addressing the passing out ceremony of the 39^th Common Training Programme at Civil Services Academy (CSA). Besides PM Gilani, guests including Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, Leader of
the House in the Senate Jahangir Badar, Federal Minister Samina Khalid Ghurki and CSA Director General Khalid Sultan also marked their presence at the event.

Talking with regard to his government’s efforts to address the energy crisis, the PM said, “So far, we have added 3,400 megawatt power to the national grid. The present democratic government has initiated a number of projects in
short, medium and long-terms to overcome the crisis on a permanent basis.”

Gilani further said that a paradigm shift in the political landscape has been introduced through consensus politics based on tolerance for diversity, as nations are built when diversity is accepted as a way of public life leading
to peaceful co-existence.

Mentioning another major success of his government, that is of NFC award on redistribution of resources among the provinces, Gilani said, “For decades, National Finance Commission (NFC) could not be agreed to because of lingering
mistrust among the federating units, however, after months of painstaking negotiations, the 7^th new NFC Award was adopted, which allocated a major chunk of economic resources to the provinces.”
