The Android 4 comes with all the goodies from Google including Gmail, Search, Plus, Latitude, Play Store, Messenger, Maps with Navigation, Places, Talk, and YouTube. Moreover there are other apps that range from basic calculator to the Polaris Office, universal suite that is compatible with the famous office formats like .doc, .docx.

Email, calendar, notifications called QuickMemo, LG SmartShare and SmartWorld (LG’s app store). Then there is alarm, FM Radio, calculator and voice recorder.

The most amazing is the new NFC chip that lets the phone communicate with other NFC-enabled devices and peripherals within range. The new phone comes with three Tag+ NFC stickers, Car, Sleep and Office. All three have their own customizable profiles that kick in when tapped near or on the phone.

Performance

High speed is 4X’s forte. Clocked at 1.5 GHz, the quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor brings unprecedented speeds to the handset. Android 4 runs seamlessly on the new Optimus and truly offers the name sake 4-times processing speeds as compared to the competition.

Landscape/portrait shifting were a without any lag. Pinch to zoom has always been Android’s Achilles’ heel but it seems that the quad-core processors from NVIDIA are finally starting to pay the dividends. Not only zooming was without any stutter, the webpage scrolling and navigation through apps found not noticeable clipping.

Even the heavier and graphics hungry games like Rapitide GP and Dark Kingdom opened without a delay and the gameplay was desktop like. Jumping back to home screen from any app, be it game or weather report, was instantaneous and very efficient.

However, the Optimus user interface was a throwback. Even if it has the efficient and fluent seven home screens, the icons and widgets look worn out. The icons have sharp edges and are boxy at best. Widgets are of low graphics and outdated.
