Katie Birchall and Diletta Lugano dominate swimming events – FINA World Masters Championships

Katie Birchall and Diletta Lugano captured gold medals of Women’s 50m backstroke in the age categories of 30-34 and 25-29 respectively at the 14th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) World Masters Championships 2012.

With her alluring efforts, Birchall remained nearly one stroke faster from her following swimmer and finished first with the timing of 31.38 seconds.

The champion remained 0.19 seconds faster from Florence Riera of France, who followed her on the finishing end for silver medal of the discipline by clocking an effort of 31.57 seconds.

Third position of the discipline was secured by Bilski Karine of France, who stayed only 0.40 seconds apart and posted a time of 31.97 seconds.

Next was the equivalent event in 25-29 age class, where Lugano impressed the crowd by seizing gold medal of the event. With her fascinating efforts, Lugano remained comfortably ahead of her opponents and reached the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 32.22 seconds.

With her epic pace, she enjoyed an advantage of 0.47 seconds over Erica Pakkala of Finland, who made her way to the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 32.69 seconds.

The second position holder was chased by Federica Giuliacci of Italy, who stayed nearly half body length apart and surfaced on the finishing wall as third position holder by clocking an effort of 33.17 seconds.

Following that, Shyrshov Vyacheslav competed in the age category of 30-34 and obtained gold medal of the same event in Men’s corner. With his persistent efforts, he remained almost a half body length behind and reached the medal rostrum for gold medal with the timing of 27.41 seconds.

His title claiming effort remained 0.46 seconds faster from Florea Razvan Ionut of Romania, who transpired on the finishing end as second position holder by submitting a time of 27.87 seconds.

The silver medallist was followed by Massimiliano Quagliani of Italy, who stayed just 1.07 seconds apart and occupied bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 28.94 seconds.

Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events.
