Mark Cavendish not targeting the point’s classifications at the Tour de France 2012

With less than four days to go in the Tour de France, the last year’s green jersey winner Mark Cavendish has noted that he is not eyeing the green jersey in the coming edition of the race.

The British is having a terrific season and has filled his bag with numerous victories in the earlier part of the year.

He bagged stages at the Tour of Qatar, Tirreno-Adriatico, Giro d’Italia, and the Ster ZLM Toer and finished first at the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne.

Mark earned the first general classifications victory of his career during the Ster ZLM Toer and also bagged the second and the third stages of the race.

He is targeting the overall classifications at the race and will be accompanied by the strong Team Sky line-up.

The British team is having an outstanding season and currently holds the top overall spot at the UCI World Tour team’s rankings.

It has secured 803 UCI points with major contributions coming through Bradley Wiggins (335), Michael Rogers (194 points), Rigoberto Uran (194 points), Edvald Boasson Hagen (77 points) and Richie Porte helped the side with 72 UCI points.

Team Katusha is holding the second position with 716 UCI points while Team Katusha, Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Team Astana occupies the next four positions.

“My form’s really good, it’s the best it’s been for a few years heading into the Tour,” Mark cited.

“I’ve got a lot of wins this year and I’m excited to get started on Saturday”.

“It’s come round quickly – it always does – but I’m happy I’ve done everything right and prepared properly”.

“You’re not just expected to turn up and ride here – there’s actually an emphasis on getting you prepared to ride,” he said.

“I was never a big fan of the scientific approach in the past. I didn’t used to look at my numbers on a graph,” he concluded.

Bradley Wiggins will lead the team at the Tour and the race experts have already declared him as a pre-race favourite.

The full Team Sky squad for the Tour de France include Edvald Boasson Hagen (Nor), Mark Cavendish (GBr), Bernhard Eisel (Aut), Christopher Froome (GBr) and Christian Knees (Ger).

Richie Porte (Aus), Michael Rogers (Aus), Kanstantsin Siutsou (Blr) and Bradley Wiggins (GBr) will also ride the Tour under Team Sky.
