Jander Vi Lazaroni and Megan Melgaard win gold medals – FINA World Masters Championships

Jander Vi Lazaroni and Megan Melgaard won gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke and Women’s 400m freestyle at the 14th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) World Masters Championships 2012 in Riccione, Italy.

With his astonishing pace and commendable start, he gained a marginal lead over his challengers from the start and occupied gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 26.81 seconds.

His title-claiming effort remained only 0.09 seconds faster from his following swimmer, King, who reached the finishing end for second position by producing a time of 26.90 seconds.

Third position of the discipline was secured by Ken Hamada Sorgi of Brazil, who stayed only 0.05 seconds behind and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 26.95 seconds.

Following that, Melgaard dominated the title of 400m event in the 30-34 age group. She showered her expertise in the eight-lap discipline and captured gold medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 26.50 seconds.

The champion was followed by Susanne Keller of Switzerland, who stayed nearly fourteen seconds behind and made her way to the finishing wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 40.20 seconds for second position.

Similarly, the silver medallist enjoyed an advantage of almost five seconds over Ann Wanter of Netherlands, who proved her mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 45.05 seconds.

Third event of the session was Women’s 400m freestyle in the age category of 25-29, where Veronica Balsano seized gold medal of the event. With her impeccable pace, Balsano kept her competitors at a considerable bay and hit the finishing end with the timing
of 4 minutes and 31.24 seconds.

The gold medallist remained 7.31 seconds faster from Samantha Gunther of South Africa, who secured silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 38.55 seconds.

Third position of the discipline was secured by Marion Blanchard of France, who stayed 1.10 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 39.65 seconds.

Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all planned events.
