Don’t sacrifice PMs, bring back the money in foreign accounts: Nawaz

Islamabad: (Thursday, June 21, 2012) Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said here today that instead of making successive prime ministers ‘sacrificial goats’ it’s better to bring back the ‘Rs 6 billion kept
in Swiss Banks’ and give them to the people of Pakistan.

Sharif said this while talking to the journalists outside the Punjab House in Islamabad.

Referring to the Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s resolve to not to let any of its elected Prime Minster write the letter to the Swiss Courts as ordered by the Supreme Court, Nawaz said that this money was the root of the whole matter.
He said, “How long will the prime ministers be made sacrificial goats? Why isn’t the Rs 6 billion brought here? Why do they keep on sacrificing the prime minister?

Maintaining that the judiciary’s decision could not be resented even on moral grounds, Nawaz said that people had strong resentment towards the PPP’s attitude and hostility towards the courts. He said, “They are not taking any
moral high grounds” by supporting a very ‘dirty’ cause.

He further said that the government was trying to disrupt the entire process by trying to cover up the money that was taken as “commission and kickbacks” by President Asif Ali Zardari. He asked the people, “Should a man like this
be placed at such a post?”

Chief of the PML-N asked why the parliament, even after being given a chance by the Supreme Court, did not take the right decision.

Referring to the apex court’s decision, he said the PPP leaders declare it wrong, but he completely supports it. He said, “They said the Supreme Court’s decision was wrong. I say the Supreme Court has set precedence in Pakistan
by taking such a decision.”

Applauding the Supreme Court’s decision, Nawaz said that earlier such matters were resolved by the military’s intervention and placement of martial laws in the country.

Sharif lamented that the current rulers have brought one after the other crisis on Pakistan and a mix of skills, sincerity and intent was needed to pull out the country out of these myriad crises. However, these things never made
a place on the priority list of the government.

To him, it was the result of such mentality on part of the rulers that “the country is sinking deeper and deeper into crises.”
