Raja Pervez Ashraf vows to resolve Balochistan crisis

Newly elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, in his first speech touched on the festering issue of Balochistan, saying a resolve to the province’s problems would be priority of his government.

He observed, “My party wants to kick off talks with the Baloch leadership to bring prosperity and development in the province”.

While pledging to create job opportunities for the youth in the war-affected province, he called on militant to surrender their arms and renounce insurgency.

He noted, “The irresponsible behavior of religious extremists has ruined Islam and Pakistan. I, as the prime minister of Pakistan, appeal them to lay down arms and join the mainstream of life”.

In the meantime, the 25th premier of the country struck a conciliatory note, inviting opposition parties to assist the government steer the country out of crises.

He promised to ensure supremacy of the Parliament, strengthen democracy and hold free, fair and transparent elections.

He was of the opinion that it was time to write a new history, which will certify the aspirations of the masses and this should their destination.

Commenting on the ongoing confrontation between judiciary and executive, Ashraf urged the need for harmony among different state organs. He said they do not desire politics of confrontation, saying all the problems will be resolved with dialogue.

Commending the coalition parties for their achievement, he confessed that the country still faced a host of issues including rampant poverty, increasing inflation, unemployment, energy crisis, and dwindling economy.

He asserted, “I stand by Gilani who strengthened the democratic institutions. The office I have been elected to is sacred and respectable for me and I will endeavor to come up to the expectations of my people, my party and the house”.

Commenting about the international challenges, the newly elected premier stated that his government will continue negotiations with neighboring countries including Afghanistan, India and Iran.

Ashraf also pledged a cordial ties with the United States (US), which have come under severe strain over the past following a NATO attack on inside Pakistan that killed 24 troops.

He vowed, “We will develop cordial relations with the US and international community on the basis of equal rights and dignity”.
