Imran Khan is most popular leader in Pakistan: Survey Report

A survey carried out by Pew Research Center declared Imran Khan, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as the most voted politician in the country with 70 % popularity rate.

According to the survey report, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif lagged behind the cricketer-turned-politician with 62 popularity rate.

It is vital to mention here the rating of PML-N leader came down somewhat from the 79% in 2009.

It further said that the people expressed dissatisfaction over present situation of the country. After a minor change in the people’s views, their dissatisfaction ratio came down from 92% to 87%.

Likewise, 89% people against 85% of 2011 termed the economic situation uncertain. They declared corruption, terrorism, inflation, unemployment and crime as major problems for declining economic situation.

The survey further observed, “The dismal public mood is reflected in poor ratings for the leaders of the incumbent Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. Only 14% view Zardari favorably, little changed from last year, but down significantly from 64% in 2008”.

The former premier, Gilani, who was recently disqualified from his post after being convicted in the contempt of court case, received only 36% votes in his favor. Although he received massive support in 2010, his reputation was declined badly in 2011.

Similarly, Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry received more than half rate as compared to the previous year. They popularity graph is becoming down since 2010.

Former president Pervez Musharraf, who cancelled his return to Pakistan due to uncertain situation, received only 39% ratings in the survey.

In the meantime, Pakistan Army continues to receive overwhelmingly positive support from the nation.

Around 77 % people voted in favor of the military saying it have good influence on the country. According to a rough estimate, 58% people think similar about the superior judiciary.
