JI, PTI vows to support judiciary

In quite an expected move, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Jamat-e-Islami (JI) on Thursday agreed to build up pressure against the government, vowing to support the judiciary.

In a joint press conference, PTI Chairman Imran Khan and JI Ameer Syed Muanwar Hassan said they agreed on three-point agenda on which they were agreed earlier. They expressed their resolve to second the judiciary in the crucial times.

The observed, “We were worried that the government and corrupt elements might harm the apex court like they did a few days ago, referring to Malik Riaz-Arsalan Iftikhar case”.

Imran Khan while dispelling any possibility to form an alliance with the parties of status quo sitting in the parliament, he said he was not seeing general elections in the coming days.

He, however, avoided commenting on whether the PTI and JI were going to make an alliance in the next general elections. In his view, the upcoming polls will only be a way to get rid of crisis gripping the country.

The PTI leader said that election and not the coupe was the way out for the country in these hard times.

He noted, “I cannot say whether elections will take place or not, anything can happen right now. But whatever the government does, I cannot see a way out of this quicksand other than elections”.

Replying to a query, he said that there should not be a role of military in forming a government in the country. In his view, the continuance of democratic process was only solution of the crisis.

Commenting on tensions between the government and the Supreme Court, Khan said that they see a clash between the two in the near future.

He noted, “Raja Rental was made the prime minister for protecting Zardari’s corruption. The new premier like Gilani will too protect the corruption and will not write a letter, which would lead to a clash between the two institutions”.

He was of the opinion that their attempt at discrediting the court had failed and that they would try to do that again.

Later, the two leaders demanded that a list of those killed in the US drone attacks be published, besides, demanding an end to the strikes. Both leaders were in agreement that there should be no role of armed forces in forming government in the country.
