Germany’s Juliane Schenk finally wins Singapore Open title with grace

Juliane Schenk, the best ever shuttler from Germany, put up thrilling show and grabbed her first Women’s Singles title at the Singapore Open Super Series 2012 in Singapore last week.

Schenk proved her mettle while playing against the spirited shuttler Cheng Shao Chieh of Chinese Taipei and won the battle in a convincing manner.

With her sensational performance the World Number Six Schenk won her first ever Super Series title which made her emotional in the court as she burst into tears after bagging the last point.

In the meanwhile, the World Number 11 Shao Chieh could not extend her winning run against the fireworks of her German rival. She lost the first set easily but put up strong resistance on court in the second set.

She remained unlucky in the concluding points and ultimately lost the contest to Schenk in 52 minutes.

Schenk controlled the pace of rallies in the first game by playing aggressive and positive badminton and set up a wonderful lead of 11-7 until the mid-game interval.

The second seeded German lady continued her impressive run without showing any respect to her spirited rival and bagged the game with a lopsided score of 21-11.

It story was completely different story in the second set when Shao Chieh troubled the German by accelerating her speed and remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game interval.

After the break, both ladies continued playing attacking game and the fast exchange of prolonged rallies made the contest quite interesting for the crowd. Both ladies progressed closely on the score board until 15-15.

Shao Chieh showed her brilliance at this crucial stage as she played incredible strokes in all corners of the court and reached at 20-17 on the board.

Nonetheless, Schenk did not give up fighting as she put up strong resistance and made the score levelled at 20-20.

At this stage, both shuttlers played safe badminton and reached at 24-24 when the higher ranked German played smart badminton by working well at net and took the game with a dramatic score of 26-24.

Schenk emerged as the title winner while ending the final contest against her Taipei opponent with a 21-11 and 26-24 margin on the score board.
