Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia: A detail analysis of both welterweights

Amir Khan is scheduled to make a comeback against one of the best light welterweights in the world, Danny Garcia, who, on the other hand, will enter the ring in order to keep his father’s vows intact, in addition to defending his newly acquired WBC light welterweight gold.

We will start the review by taking a look at their resumes.

Amir, 25, has been in a total of 28 bouts, boasting 26 wins. The Bolton proud has nailed 18 of his opponents by knockout and has lost just two bouts, one being the controversial Lamont Peterson defeat.

Danny, 24, on the other hand, has been in a total of 23 bouts and possesses an undefeated streak. The young Philadelphian has also nailed a handsome number of opponents via knockout, 14 to be specific.

As far as the comparison goes, the vote lies in favour of Khan as he has more experience and possesses better knockout proficiency.

Take on strategy:

The odds are heavily in favour of Garcia when it comes to take on strategy. Amir moves back after throwing a jab or punch. Danny, however, undergoes an opposite aggressive stance. Garcia loves to pierce through his opponents’ defence. He progresses towards his opponent using his short but stiff body, throwing powerful jabs.

Whenever Khan will move back he will be duly received by Danny’s powerful jabs. Therefore, Khan needs to take care of this matter and change his strategy a bit.

Speed and strength:

Undoubtedly, Amir is well known for being a speedy and agile brawler but this time things are a little bit different as he is taking on Danny whose nick itself is ‘Swift’.

Furthermore, Khan, after the arrival of his new conditioning coach Ruben Tabares, has shifted his concentration towards increasing his strength.

Khan lacks the ability to throw powerful jabs. He can strike and connect fast but his jabs are somewhat powerless. In order to cope up with this problem especially against the powerhouse Danny, Khan has started supplement intake to increase body mass and power.

With increasing body mass, Amir’s speed will definitely be affected. If Khan does not compensate this drawback, the benefit will go to Danny. Garcia junior, on the other hand, has proved several times that he is a strong brawler and can knockout even the toughest men in the division.

Therefore, Danny will have the speed and agility point, whereas Khan will have the strength factor in his favour only if he gets stronger than Danny otherwise the world will witness Garcia junior pummel Khan.

Resilience:

Amir Khan is not a resilient brawler. He has a quite soft chin and Maidana did prove it by flattening the ‘King’ on the ring floor in the tenth round. Most of the analysts believed that Khan was out and cold but miraculously Amir got up and stayed in the ring till the end of the 12 round. The bout was won by Khan via unanimous decision but it clearly highlighted Amir’s deficiencies.

Garcia, on the other hand, is a resilient brawler with a tough chin. Erik strived hard to knock the lad out but his every effort went in vain. Despite being bloodied, Danny did not lose his senses and went all the way to grab a unanimous win by making a late comeback.

Therefore, in this aspect as well, Danny wins the bout.

The above comparison clearly shows that both pugilists are of equal calibre and competency and have the tendency to knock the other one out. Fasten your seat belts as the ride will be a wild one. The bout is definitely destined to be an explosive one and will place the victor on the top of the division.
