However, the company has done a marvellous job in re-engineering tap-to-load feature. In the past, the browser had to load full content on the web page in order to play a video, for instance. However, now every icon, hyperlink works independently. Once the Flash window is opened, the user can play the video instantly. This helps in substantially reducing the data consumption.

The sync feature allows the user to link the mobile version with desktop, so that if a user switches the platforms, he/she needs not open or search for the websites again. Once linked to the desktop sibling, the mobile version automatically saves the web pages and tabs opened on the PC or Mac.

The same works seamlessly with URL sharing. The user can send web links to other devices at the tap of a single button.

Nightingale dished a bit on what’s coming for Firefox on Android, which anybody can check out in the browser’s Nightly and Aurora builds. A “Readability” mode for streamlined article reading just landed in the Nightly build, and text selection is also a priority, he said.

Firefox for Android will be available on Android 2.2 Froyo, 2.3 Gingerbread and 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. However, due to the Flash integration is at an impasse in Honeycomb, its version is still in the making. Nightingale said the Honeycomb version will soon be released. Due to the reason Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is a mere two-week old, its version is also in the pipeline.

The director however, spilled the beans on Firefox’s iOS brother, Junior. The iPad version is not on the priority list of the company yet. Safari still holds the important position in iOS environment and third-party browser developers with the likes of Mozilla and Opera are least interested in operating system.

“Junior is not on an engineer track yet,” he said. “It’s just something the user experience prototyping team showing off what they’d been playing with. It was more protoypey than was given credit for.”
