Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia: Khan excited about two world titles being on the line

Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan is pleased with WBA’s decision of offering the light welterweight title for his match with Danny Garcia.

“There are going to be two world titles on the line, the WBC belt and the WBA one. I was really pleased when I heard that both belts were going to be up for grabs and I would like to thank the WBA for reviewing everything and putting the belt up for grabs. I want to win back the world titles in the ring, the way it should be done,” Khan’s public letter read.

Khan is currently busy with his training sessions, even though he has been on the longest training camp of his career. His trainer Freddie Roach is concerned about Khan’s overtraining. In his previous interview, Roach stated his concerns saying he fears Khan might exhaust sooner than usual if he trains too hard.

However, Khan has brushed aside all such notions, claiming he is in 1005 good shape and health, and that he will not exhaust when in the ring.

“I’m keeping busy with training and this is the last week real week of intense training before we start to cool it down. I sparred on Monday and have one last sparring session coming up later this week. Freddie is really pleased the way sparring has gone and even I’m a bit surprised by the power in my shots because I know I have the ability to hurt Garcia,” Khan’s letter further read.

Khan has been in the camp since April, when he was scheduled to fight Lamont Peterson on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. However, the rematch was cancelled following Peterson’s positive drug test and since then Khan has been in the training camp.

Khan will be taking on Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
