Freddie Roach: Lamont Peterson is tougher and more experienced than Danny Garcia
Saturday, July 7th, 2012 5:46:10 by Mohammad ShahjahanFreddie Roach, Amir Khan’s trainer, shared his views regarding Khan’s upcoming opponent Danny Garcia, the current WBC light welterweight champion. Roach remarked Garcia is not as tough as Lamont Peterson, adding that Lamont is an experienced and polished pugilist whereas Danny is raw and needs refinement.
Amir Khan and Danny Garcia are six days away from their 12-round bout. The showdown will have two titles on the line and Khan is looking forward at grabbing both in order to leave the 140-pound division with a win.
The only obstacle, dubbed as a tough one by even the best analysts, in Amir’s way is Danny. The 24-year-old who hails from Philadelphia Pennsylvania has taken the whole media by storm with substantial help from his father Angel Garcia.
Roach during his recent short but to the point media interaction shared his view point regarding the trash talk that stirred the whole boxing world and in some cases also raised questions. Angel Garcia, who alongside the responsibility of being Danny’s father also shares the burden of being his trainer, in past few days has targeted Amir Khan and Freddie Roach vehemently.
Amid all the jabbering, Angel crossed the line when he taunted Amir’s God, denoted him as an over rated pugilist, stamped a tag of being an orchestrated brawler and even called Roach a trainer with no credibility.
The accusations were serious and it did baffle and somewhat raged Khan and his colleagues but the Bolton lad and his mates did not lose their temper and kept quiet. Freddie when asked about those trash talks just smiled and in a care-free manner stated, “It’s like, is it really worth a response?”
The Hall of Fame trainer, Roach further added, “I don’t read the internet so I don’t read negative information. It’s not part of my life. Thing is, whatever he says, I talk about Sergio Martinez not being that good sometimes so it’s just talk. It really doesn’t affect me at all and best thing is it won’t help him at all. His son will pay in the ring.”
When asked as to what he thinks about Lamont versus Danny, the renowned trainer stated, “No, I think Peterson is a much more experienced fighter. Much more polished. I think figuring the guys out and watching tapes of both fighters, I think Garcia is made to order for us.”
Khan-Danny clash will take place at Mandalay Bay Resorts & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and will definitely put forth the Vegas boxing fans a showdown to remember.
