Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia: Khan feels excited about the WBA title being up for grabs

Former IBF and WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan is thrilled to know the vacant WBA light welterweight title will be on the line too, when he takes on the WBC light welterweight titlist Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

When asked about it, Khan said, “It’s thrilling to know that because I think they’ve seen there was some wrong and they have made the first move. I’m glad that the title will be on the line now. It just makes the fight even more exciting and also having two world titles makes the fight even bigger.”

Khan even spoke about his upcoming opponent, regarding him as one of the best in the division. According to Khan, Garcia is a young fighter and he is hungry for victories, a trait that will make the showdown even more enthralling for the fans.

“Me and Danny are young fighters. He’s 24. I’m 25 and to be in this position fighting a huge fight with so many titles on the line I think is brilliant. We just hope that the IBF may do the same thing, put that title on the line, as well, which will be coming on this unification. I think the WBA made a great choice and I just want to thank them for….” said Khan regarding Garcia.

It should be noted here that the WBA title was stripped off Lamont Peterson earlier this month, as a result of his positive drug test report that emerged in April. The drug test scenario got Khan’s rematch against Peterson cancelled, shattering the Bolton proud’s dreams of reacquiring his IBF and WBA titles.

Nevertheless, Khan once again has the chance to not only grab the WBA title but also the WBC championship. The bout between him and Garcia will be a title unification bout, offering the winner the chance to grab both the titles.
