America’s Vicki Golden clinched gold medal in X Games Women’s Moto X Racing that went down at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 30.

Finishing behind her in runner-up place was Puerto Rico’s Tarah Gieger, consequently walking away with the silver medal. France’s Livia Lancelot managed to secure the last remaining spot on the podium to take home the bronze, making the outcome of the event identical to that of last year.

The best female riders from around the world were gathered at STAPLES Center to compete against each other for a place on the podium. The pressure of putting on a performance in front of such a massive crowd was definitely going to have its impact on the exciting action sports athletes, though the fans expected a contest that would be nothing short of thrilling.

Golden was returning back to action at X Games after remaining out of action due to a collarbone injury sustained earlier this year. The injury had even kept her from competing in American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Arenacross series.

On Saturday night, the 19-year-old Golden looked in a formidable form. She asserted her dominance in the race right from the get-go, taking the Holeshot and holding onto the lead until finishing the race in 300.79 seconds, seven seconds ahead of second-place finisher Gieger.

“It means a great deal,” Golden said during her post-event interview “When I broke my collarbone before the Arenacross, it really put the fear in me, and I just couldn’t get back. I struggled all year, and I finally started to get to where I felt comfortable again during the end of AMA Arenacross.”

The Menifee-based rider dedicated her gold medal to The Seth Foundation in honour of her childhood friend Seth Nothcutt who died of drug overdose two years ago.

Lancelot finished third after clocking a time of 310.03 seconds, consequently earning her place on the podium.

Australia’s Meghan Rutledge just missed out on the podium after clocking a time of 312.54 seconds, while America’s Jessica Patterson and Tatum Sik rounded out the bottom-two positions after finishing the race in 318.15 and 322.12 seconds respectively.
