In Easy Steps: Tweak settings and customize the interface of Samsung Galaxy SIII – Part 1

Friday, July 13th, 2012 7:10:11 by

Samsung Galaxy SIII might not be hailed as a revolutionary device but it is a complete set of latest software and hardware. That is one of the reasons why everyone savvy to the smartphone technology wants a piece of it. It is one of the best options for those who like to tweak their devices just for fun or to make them ultra-efficient.

Samsung comes stacked up with software features in its operating system Android Ice Cream Sandwich from facial recognition to voice recognition. Therefore, it has a lot of room for tweaks to its stock settings. However, due to the large array of options to play with one might not know where to start.

Word of advice, start with battery efficiency. As it comes pre-installed with Ice Cream Sandwich and TouchWiz right from Samsung factory, it is loaded with bloatware, Samsung’s own branded applications, usually aimed to make life easier. What they end up is as a headache to the users who do not want excessive prompt or a home screen waterlogged with different apps that are not needed in the first place.

However, due to the reason that they are installed by the company, they cannot be uninstalled and one might need them in the future, who knows. But the user can always change their settings, stop them from working and/or disable them altogether.

To disable a pre-installed company-branded app, simply go to the app drawer and find it in the list. Tap, hold and drag it to App Info to open its settings. The settings menu will have different options like Force stop, Disable and Clear data. If you want to disable app completely, tap Disable. This step will free up the internal memory (RAM) for the phone to work faster, but the app will still remain on the SSD as it will not be uninstalled.
