Amir Khan: This is my chance to prove myself as the best in the division

Amir Khan, the current WBA light welterweight champion, will take on the current WBC light welterweight champion, Danny Garcia, today at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan has called this his last fight at the 140lbs division as he wants to move up to 147lbs division, where the likes of pound-for-pound kings Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather operates.

The Bolton man, who is more commonly known as King Khan, had the same plans last year but his dreams were quashed by Lamont Peterson. Perhaps this is a reason why he believes a win over Garcia will bring him back under the main lights.

“This is my chance to prove once and for all that I’m the best in the division,” Khan said. “I can win the WBC title tomorrow and will have held three of the four belts in the light-welterweight division, so it’s time to move up to 147lbs.

While speaking on his inclusion, the Brit, who carries a record of winning 26 of his 28 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, insisted that he wants to set up a potential fight with the undefeated American legend Floyd Mayweather junior.

Khan said he feels he can upset Mayweather because Mayweather has never faced anyone like him as of yet.

“I just think there are more challenges out there for me in that division. “I want to be in big world title fights and in big fights with the likes of Mayweather. To do that, I need to be up in that division.”

He added, “Watching Mayweather’s last fight, coupled with the way I’ve been training, I think I’m ready.

“Styles make fights. I know Mayweather’s fought other styles and has looked so good against them, but he’s never fought anyone with my style, someone young, hungry, fit and strong who can punch.”
