Supreme Court adjourns Malik Riaz Case hearing till 31 July

Islamabad: (Monday, July 16, 2012) The Supreme Court of Pakistan, while hearing Malik Riaz contempt of court case, adjourned the hearing till July 31^st. The case was primarily focused on the real estate tycoon’s press
conference on June 12, where he had ridiculed judiciary through baseless allegations.

Headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan, a three member bench performed hearing of the case.

Following the enactment of new Contempt of Court Act 2012 and filing of intra-court appeal on behalf of Malik Riaz Hussain, the court issued notices to the concerned parties.

Earlier, Malik Riaz’s counsel, Dr Basit, in his arguments, said that he wanted the indictment of his client to be carried out today, however, said that the new law had created impediment in this way.
