Amir Khan fires back at Carl Froch: I am not retiring; he can!

The Bolton man, Amir Khan, lost his WBA light welterweight title last Saturday with a fourth-round defeat by Danny Garcia but he has no plans of walking away from the sport at all.

The 25-year-old, who is more commonly known as King Khan, entered the ring as a heavy-favourite against Garcia. Perhaps this is a reason why his defeat brought him a lot of criticism, especially from his fellow countryman Carl Froch, who is the current IBF Super Middleweight champion.

Recently, while sharing thoughts with the media, Froch claimed that if he were in the same position as Khan, he would have hung up his gloves.

Froch told the media that Khan lost to a highly under-rated boxer Bradley Prescott in the opening round in 2008 and then he showed a lacklustre performance against Lamont Peterson last year and had he been in Khan’s place, he would have considered retirement.

However, Khan believes Froch is saying all this because he is jealous of him. The Brit, while dismissing suggestions, remarked he is not retiring at all but if Carl wants to retire he can.

Khan responded: “Carl’s always got his little things to say and I’ll leave it to that really. If he wants to retire he can retire.

“I’m in a tougher division, I’m fighting better opposition and I’m a bigger name than him. That’s what burns him really.

“People are going to say things after this fight, but people said things after the Prescott fight and you see how I came back from there.”

Khan wanted to move up to the 147lbs pounds division in order to set up a fight with the undefeated American legend Floyd Mayweather junior but now he says that he will stay in the same division for at least one more fight.

He added, “It’s put things back,” he explained. “I made 140lb very comfortably this time and I think it will be ideal for me to stay maybe one more fight – if I can win the title and then move up to 147lb. No rush.”

One way to gain respect and credibility with your fans would be to have a rematch with Prescott.
A win over him would do more for your reputation and put you back as a great boxer.
