Amir Khan: It wasn’t my night!

The 25-year-old Bolton man Amir Khan suffered a humiliating defeat at the hand of Danny Garcia last Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The British pugilist, who is more commonly known as King Khan, was dropped by Garcia late in the third round and twice in the fourth before the referee stopped the fight and awarded Garcia a TKO win.

Khan, who entered the ring as a red-hot favourite, has now admitted that it was not his night.

“It wasn’t my night,” Khan admitted in a Boxing Scene interview. “I respect Danny, he was countering very well against me.”

“Danny took advantage,” he added. “We got a little complacent and he took advantage and he caught me.”

Garcia’s father, Angel Garcia, bashed Khan at the pre-fight press conference by making unsavoury comments about Khan’s Pakistani heritage. He also touched Khan’s religion while making the speech. Therefore, Khan knows many out there had their eyes set on him because they all wanted him to make Garcia pay for what he said.

Perhaps this is a reason why Khan apologized to his fans as well via Twitter, saying, “Can I apologize to my family friends and everyone. I got caught with a shot and I know millions of u are upset but that’s boxing for u.”

While speaking on his inclusion, Khan insisted that he got surprised when the referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight.

“I thought he was going to let us continue. My mind was clear and I thought my legs were okay,” Khan said.

“But I respect the referee, the judges and the commission, maybe they made the right call,” he added.

Well, all said and done, this is the second time when Danny Garcia, who now holds the WBA and WBC light welterweight titles, has shocked the world.

Garcia made heads turn with his victory over Mexican legend Erik Morales earlier this year and now he has proved that it was not a fluke.
