In order to clarify the situation and woo back dissident Baloch, the Pakistan army has rejected the impression that it was carrying out any operation in Balochistan.

Director General Military Operation (DGMO) Maj Gen Ishfaq Ahmed Nadeem said, “There is no military operation in any part of Balochistan and not a single soldier is out of the barracks”.

While addressing a two-day national workshop at the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, the DGMO rejected the reports as propaganda claims that a military operation was under way in the war-torn province.

He asserted, “I want to make it clear that there is no military operation in Balochistan and this is a wrong perception being created through well-organised propaganda which should be countered”.

Commenting about the construction of garrisons in numerous parts of the province, particularly in Kohlu and Sui, the DGMO clarified that the military have no plans to establish new cantonments in the region as per the decision of the provincial authorities.

He was of the opinion that public support was crucial for any army and Pakistan army was nothing without the moral support of the nation.

Describing law and order situation in the province, the DGMO said that military wants a political solution to the issue and only negotiations and dialogue could pave the way for such a resolve.

Replying to a query about role of Frontier Corps (FC) in the province, Maj Gen Nadeem said that the paramilitary forces always follow the direction of the provincial government, making it clear the FC was not involved in forcefully abducting people.

He elucidated, “Majority of the names on the missing persons’ list are in Farari camps, some of them have been jailed in Afghanistan due to their criminal activities and some others are also reportedly in Afghanistan”.
