Canada Open Grand Prix 2012: Nozomi Okuhara tames Sayaka Takahashi to grab Women’s Singles crown

Nozomi Okuhara, the most promising young shuttler from Japan, defied all odds to grab Women’s Singles crown after proving her impressive class in final battle when she overpowered her team-mate Sayaka Takahashi in Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 on last Sunday,
in Canada.

The un-seeded Nozomi continued her killing run in the final battle and proved her mettle by beating her team-mate in a spectacular fashion.

Nozomi showed her spirited skills on court and was just uncontrollable on court as she played dominating badminton and ended up the match in 32 minutes by winning it in straight sets with a good margin.

Sayaka, in the meanwhile, could not put up strong show as she failed to remain consistent against her team-mate and lost to her in two games without showing a considerable performance on court.

Both shuttler played aggressive badminton in opening set and remained close at the initial stage.

They progressed closely by playing at the same speed and reached at 6-6 when Nozomi showed her brilliance on court when she took five points in a row to earn a superb lead of 11-6 until the one-minute break.

After the interval, Nozomi continued her power play and did not let her compatriot to draw near at any stage.

The perfectly placed attacking shots helped Nozomi to win the opening set in a sensational manner with a huge margin of 21-8.

The in-form Nozomi continued playing positive and attacking badminton in the second set of the title match.

Sayaka, on the other hand, also tried to change her tactics and played aggressive game but failed to stop the aggression of her rival and remained struggling.

The in-form Nozomi was ahead on score board at 11-8 until the mid-game interval.

The aggressive Nozomi remained on track after the one-minute interval as she played at her best speed and remained successful in nailing the second game with a 21-16 score on the board.

Nozomi grabbed the title by ending up the final encounter of the tournament with an inspiring margin of 21-8 and 21-16.
