America’s Maria Forsberg collected her second consecutive X Games gold medal after emerging triumphant in Women’s Moto X Enduro X that went down at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 1.

The rest of the podium was completed by American riders as well, with Louise Forsley finishing in runner-up place to clinch silver medal while Chantelle Bykerk took home the bronze.

The 25-year-old Forsberg has been establishing herself as one of the most dominating female rider in Endurocross. She remains undefeated in Endurocross competition in 2011, successfully defending her title at the Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC), earning an American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Racing Female Athlete of the Year award and inking a deal with FMF/KTM Racing.

However, arriving at the biggest stage of action sports in Los Angeles, she found herself pitted against a handful of extremely promising talent and staring at a course that featured tires, rocks, log, water and a firewood pit.

As the battle for the top honours got underway, Forsberg did not waste any time in moving into the lead. Her cautious and consistent riding kept her well ahead of the pack despite having troubles of her own.

“The toughest part of the track was probably the firewood pit after they added the water,” Forsberg said. “It’s really slippery and we never got to practice once the water was in, so that was difficult for us. The key is just being consistent and not getting stuck: it’s not about who’s fastest, it’s more like the least you get stuck the better you do.”

Maintain her lead until the end, Forsberg reached the finish line well before her rivals to secure the highest spot on the podium.

The 24-year-old Forsley finished 15 seconds behind Forsberg to secure silver medal, which was quite an accomplishment considering it was her first appearance in X Games.

“I came into this really just wanting to get onto the podium and get some exposure, so I accomplished that and hopefully I can pick up some new sponsors as a result,” said Forsley.

The 20-year-old Bykerk rounded out the podium after finishing nearly 30 seconds behind the winner, consequently earning a bronze medal for her efforts.
