Amir Khan lost his WBA light welterweight title last Saturday to Danny Garcia at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and he is now looking forward to a rematch in December this year in order to regain the top spot.
The Bolton man, who is more commonly known as King Khan, had planned to move up to 147lbs division in order to take on the undefeated American legend Floyd Mayweather junior but Garcia quashed his dreams with a devastating blow. Therefore, Khan now wants to fight Garcia before setting his sights on Mayweather.
“I’m looking at fighting again in December and we’re hoping it is against Danny Garcia,” Khan said. “We’re working on a rematch.
“Hopefully in December we can get that rematch and I can bring the belts home to Britain.”
The 25-year-old Brit entered the ring as a red-hot favorite against Garcia but everyone was left flabbergasted when they saw him taking the punishment in the ring. Khan also lost his battle last year on December 10 against Lamont Peterson, who was an underdog too.
However, while speaking on his inclusion, Khan insisted that he has taken nothing to his heart because he knows this is all a part of the sport.
Khan stated it was just not his night but he will come back stronger than ever this time.
“I’m in my best days now,” he said. “I’ve put that behind me. This will only drive me and motivate me to go forward.
He added, “I’ve not had time to be upset. I was thinking on the plane on the way home it would have been great to win all those titles and bring them home. Everyone was rooting for me to do that, but it just wasn’t my time.”
Rumours revolving around suggested as if Khan has planned to leave Freddie Roach. Nevertheless, when asked Khan, he rubbished all reports and remarked he is very happy with Roach.
Well, all said and done, let’s see if Danny Garcia agrees to give Amir Khan a rematch.
