Ford Focus Electric (2012): Full Review – Part 1

Friday, July 20th, 2012 7:27:05 by

Ford’s new Focus Electric is a blaster, loaded with technology, best economy and value for money. As obvious from the name it is an electric vehicle that runs on an electric motor. There are no hybrid power trains but a 25 kilowatt battery pack that powers up a 143-horsepower electric motor.

Drivability is good, above average for those who like to bury the accelerator pedal into the floor. However, for those commuters who just want to drive in the comfort of a noiseless cabin and want to reach point B in extreme fuel efficiency, the Electric is one of the best options.

The power train is slow to flick the speedometer needle to 60 mph but it is consistent in getting the car from a trough to the crest on a steep slope. Innards are comfortable, and there is a boot for small to medium luggage, which is a welcome feature for a hatchback that has a bulk of batteries in nestled in the back.

The Focus Electric is an upgrade to the 2011 model in many ways; the vehicle’s central system has been revamped and the outside source connectivity to the stereo now has extended options.

The only conundrum for buyers will be its navigation system that works just fine, if it gets started. The Nav is a little slow to kick in at the start and there are some graphical anomalies in the maps, especially with the road distinction.
