Ford Focus Electric (2012): Full Review – Part 3

The electric motor in the front takes the power from a 25 kilowatt lithium ion battery pack at the back of the car and fires 143-horsepower to the front wheels. The result is a satisfying 184 pound-feet of torque.

Stepping down on the pedal to hard does not affect the car’s performance. It is programmed to go slow and steady from a stand-still. This might be good from the perspective of safe driving but on traffic signals it becomes a little frustrating to move slow when there is a need for speed.

Focus Electric is heavier than its gas-based sibling but that gives it a solid feel. Focus Electric is comparatively more resistant to gusty cross winds and is quite safe in sharp turns.

Despite amassing more weight than the gas version, 3,624 pounds, it is a consistent ride that anyone can count on, on straight and steep roads alike. On extreme roads, it travels relatively slow but consistently without giving a hint of extra burden on the engine’s shoulders. From stand-still it creeps slow on uphill move but reaches the crest without being worked up.

The best thing about the car is that it gains and loses electric mileage on hilly roads. An exerted move up the hill may lose up to five miles out of package but the downhill travel will gain almost the same, so the differential is near to none.
